Club staff assists sinking sailors during the Ft Lauderdale to Key West Race
January 2010
While competing in the annual 160 mile trek down the keys, our club staffers suspended racing to offer assistance to another competitor in distress.
Kevin Ryman and Grady Byus, along with J/World coaches Jeff Jordan, Kristen Berry and Aaron Galvin, were among the crew sailing on Robin Team’s J/122 ‘Teamwork’ in the Ft Lauderdale to Key West race when every sailors worst nightmare occurred. At 3:45am a distress call was received that another boat had hit an unlighted buoy and was taking on water. After a quick plotting of the other boats location, it was determined that Teamwork was in a position to render assistance. Teamwork immediately suspended racing and rushed to the scene, standing by the stricken vessel until the Coast Guard arrived. All crewmembers were safely transferred to the Coast Guard boat and the sinking vessel was successfully towed to port.
Teamwork resumed racing, and went on to win their class after being awarded redress for the lost time.

2010 Club Flotilla in the B.V.I.'s!
Join us for a bareboat cruising adventure in the British Virgin Islands!
Mark your calendar for the week of February 20th through the 27th, 2010. Travel to Tortola and board on the 20th. We will spend the first night onboard at the base. Provisions will be loaded and the following morning we'll be underway. We'll return the boats the morning of the 27th and can fly home that afternoon.
Come sail with us among some of our favorite islands and anchorages including Tortola, Jost van Dyke, Virgin Gorda and more. The BVI's offer a unique blend of stunning scenery, easy logistics, modern amenities as well as out island charm and solitude. If you have not sailed on a flotilla with us before, are new to bareboat cruising, or simply love these islands like we do, this is the ideal trip for you. We plan to have three boats in the 41 to 50 foot size range. Each boat will feature three or more private double cabins so you can bring your significant other and have a cabin to yourselves! You will be grouped together aboard our fleet of charter boats with Kevin Ryman aboard the mother ship as Cruise Director.
Limited experience is not a problem! Lesser-experienced sailors will be placed onboard a boat with a qualified skipper. All Chesapeake Boating Club members, their immediate friends and family are invited to join us! If you would like to be part of this trip, or need additional details, please contact us as soon as possible. We'd love to have you join us!
Price: $1,695 per person double occupancy. Although the program is priced based on double occupancy (you should really find someone to bring along!), we will try to accommodate individuals where possible. Those who register as singles should expect to share a cabin or can pay an extra fee of $700 for their own cabin.
The price includes all boat charter related expenses, partial provisioning, and cruising taxes. You should budget additionally for airfare, meals ashore, alcohol, and any shore-side transportation. Space is limited, sign up before October 10th and get a $200 discount!
Please RSVP as soon as possible with any interest or questions you may have.
19' Twin Vee joins the fleet
We are proud to announce a new arrival, just in time for fall foliage watching and the extended rockfish season !
Over the years, we have heard many request for a smaller, more agile boat to complement the Albin 28.
We were listening, and now we think we have found the answer.
The club has acquired a 19’ Twin Vee center console power catamaran.
It is very stable, dry, and comfortable riding, with lots of room for all your activities.
With a rated capacity for 8 people, it is very easily managed solo as well.
It is available to all club members, but you will need to be checked out on it before being able to make a reservation.
It will have the same schedule and points system as the Albin 28.
You will be able to reserve it up to 14 days in advance, but reservations will be limited to one session per day on weekends.
Because the outboard does not need to be winterized, it will be available all year, unless the creek is frozen.
Please give us a call or email to schedule your checkout.
The Albin 28’s will remain in service until the threat of a hard freeze – hopefully after Thanksgiving.
This is a great time to get out for a few hours and see the bay in all her glorious fall colors.
We look forward to seeing you at the club soon!
Harbor 20's join the fleet
The Chesapeake Boating Club ( formerly J/Port Sailing Club) is proud to announce the addition of 3 Harbor 20 sailboats to the fleet.
The Harbor 20 was chosen for it’s ease of use, comfortable seating, great sailing and classic good looks.
This boat is fantastic for anyone who wants to grab a few friends and go for a tour of Annapolis harbor and the Severn River under sail.
With incredible stability and loads of conveniences, the Harbor 20 can be rigged in minutes and sailed single-handedly, or with a group. There's no better opportunity to share sailing excitement with friends and family-whether they're seasoned sailors or not.
The Harbor 20's accommodating cockpit holds up to eight guests and no one needs to sit on the rail to balance the boat, or duck under the boom when tacking. Deep coamings provide comfortable back support, and the easily accessible ice chest quickly renders your favorite refreshments.
The Harbor 20's 900 lb. torpedo-like bulb keel keeps the weight low in the water. This keel design gives the boat plenty of stability in heavy winds without slowing it down in light air.
The self-tacking Hoyt club boom makes short-tacking up the harbor very easy indeed, roller furling In seconds, making sailing safer and simpler.
The Chesapeake Boating Club offers annual memberships on a variety of boats, all available on short notice and at a fraction of the cost of boat ownership. Becoming a member of the club is the perfect way to get out on the water and enjoy the Chesapeake Bay with minimal expense or hassle and maximum fun. Membership allows unlimited use of the boats of your choosing, and all reservations can be made online 24/7. Training is available.
Whether you are looking for a lazy afternoon day-sail, a comfortable harbor tour with the family, or an extended getaway cruise, the Chesapeake Boating Club has you covered with the Harbor 20, J/80, J/105, and J/32 sailboats, plus Albin 28 and MJM 29 Power boats, all moored just minutes from where the Severn River meets the Chesapeake Bay.
Are you dreaming of the day when you will find the perfect boat, arrange for a place to keep it, discover the energy to care for it, and have enough time left to actually use it? Stop dreaming and get out on the water with the Chesapeake Boating Club. 410-280-8692 www.chesapeakeboatingclub.com clubinfo@chesapeakeboatingclub.com

March 2008
Hello and happy almost spring!
Even though it is cold and dreary outside, we have been busy making improvements, and gearing up for another fantastic boating season.
As most of you know, last fall we made the decision to divide the company into more discrete divisions, to better address all of our various clients’ needs. You will notice a few changes at J/Port when you come down, and we hope that they will contribute to an even better experience for everyone.
The new and used boatsales department is now North Point Yacht Sales, and is run by Ken and Jennifer Comerford. They have taken over the office space, and Cheryl will continue working for both the Club and North Point, from there. Paul will continue splitting his time, and will be selling boats as well as working with the Club.
Kevin has been campaigning Robin Team’s new J/122 ‘Teamwork’ down south, and will be back at the Club full time after the Acura Miami Grand Prix Regatta, March 6-9. The following is a link to a brief write up from SailingWorld http://www.sailingworld.com/racing-views/editorscorrespondents/boat-of-the-day-j122-teamwork--1000007939.html
We have added a new floating office and ‘Clubhouse’ which is docked in the first slip on the left. That is where you will find Kevin, Joe, and Grady, when they are not out working on the boats.
The new Club direct phone line is 410-280-8692.
We have just completed upgrading the website and are currently testing the reservation system. We hope that you will enjoy the new layout and functionality, please let us know if you find any bugs !
The boats have been getting some upgrades and TLC. The J/80’s have actually been getting a fair bit of use, and the other boats will be back in service as soon as the threat of a hard freeze has passed.
The Club BVI Flotilla was a week of fun in the sun, starting from Road Town, Tortola.
We will have a full report with photos soon. Mark your calendars now for next year’s cruise.
We look forward to seeing everyone back at J/Port soon. Hoping for an early spring,
The Club Crew
